interpretive curriculum + programing + books + videos + plays + blogs + etc.
- Janet Elman, Executive Director
of the American Association of Museums
The thing is, the place was just an empty classroom, but Lola was able to make the children see so much more in their imaginations. My daughter was so completely immersed in the story that she was that she felt like she was far, far away.
I write for an audience to experience something personal and lasting in memory. My writing career has spanned many formats and audiences but always delivers entertainment packed with information and break out segments for audience participatory engagement and discovery.
Opening ceremonies and extravaganzas
In 2004 I co- wrote the opening ceremonies for VSA at the Kennedy Center, and that year I also
wrote/illustrated Waking. Waking was for an adult audiences and explored themes of introspection, purpose, faith and celestial mythology.
From 2006- 2015 as the founder and creative director for 2 children’s companies, I wrote and curated a large amount of thematic curriculum packages. Among these were cultural arts of over 90 countries, national parks, music of the last 50 years, greek mythology, recycling, space, circus, zoology, and historic women. The packages each included introductory and break out information, curated videos and photographs, and interactive participatory programing based in art, movement and drama.
Interactive Fantasy Adventures
From 2010-2016 through Lola’s Lab, I wrote over 40 plays that led audiences on interactive adventures. This work has been based on my work at Disney, where story is the nugget that all engagement avenues lead from, I established a path to re-write and published books for wider audiences based the plays I had written in Lola’s Lab. In developing the these for Lola’s Lab, I alway had more ideas than I could explore though curriculum. The stories in book format were able to reach an elementary to tween, audience allowed me to dive deeper into the narratives, allowed for building out character development and exploring other parts of the plot that would not fit into the plays. I also added participatory engagement into the formats so the reader could engage and express themselves as they read though the story.
Books, Video, Podcasts
My first book “Zoopossible Rpyal Kingdom, (42 pgs.) was published on Amazon in 2013. The second, Super Oink, (80 pgs.) is finished, and I am seeking an agent.
Video is a format that combines my visual, written and producer brain. I’ve been working in video throughout the years, writing scripts for event intro videos, marketing and community based videos and my favorite, ultra creative fictional stories that feature colorful characters.
Currently, 2018-2019 I am writing/ directing/ producing a podcast version of Zoopossible, adapting socially conscious elements and projects to suit an online audio based audience.
